What is the macular ganglion cell complex GCC

The macular ganglion cell complex, or GCC, is located in the eye at the level of the macula and above the fovea (central part of the macula).

The GCC constitutes the innermost layer of retinal cells. It is from these ganglion cells that the million fibers that constitute the optic nerve originate. It is also the thickest portion of the retina, where there are several layers of ganglion cells. It also appears that the GCC is less thick in people suffering from glaucoma, regardless of its severity.
