The keirin event will be one of the most spectacular track cycling events at the Olympics.
Born in 1948, the keirin comes from Japan. It is a 2,000-meter speed race, contested by a peloton of six to eight cyclists, lined up according to a draw at the start. An important detail is that during the first 1,400 meters, a small moped sets the pace of the race by increasing the speed very gradually. When it moves away, the sprint begins between the riders, and it often turns out to be spectacular with a lot of contact and falls. The order in which the riders cross the line determines the final ranking.
