The type of game in English “First Person Shooter” is quite common among action games. It is expressed in Turkish as “First Person Shooter”. FPS games typically try to give the player the feeling of being in the action.
What is First Person Shooter – FPS, which is a game genre?
While an FPS game allows you to participate in events from a first-person perspective, the game shows the character’s arms and the weapon or object currently in hand.
When moving in different directions with a game controller or computer keyboard, a slight left-right rocking motion is also projected onto the screen to provide a more realistic gaming experience. These concussions may be more or less severe depending on whether the player is running, walking, or being hit.
The feeling of realism can be enhanced by the reds reflected on the player’s screen, the drops covering the screen in case of getting wet, or the blue icing effects in case of feeling cold. In addition, breath and footsteps are given more detail.
What modes are there in FPS games?
FPS games usually have two game modes. These can be mission mode or multiplayer. Mission mode is intended for a one player game experience. Normally, this mode includes several levels that get progressively more difficult and lead to a final goal. During these episodes, the player is engaged with the character’s story.
In multiplayer mode, several people are brought together over network connections to play together. While LAN connections used to be the more popular option, nowadays people connect to a central server of the game over their home network.
In multiplayer, there are different options that are shorter but offer more intense gameplay:
- Deathmatch
- Team deathmatch
- Capture the Ffag
- Search and destroy
- Last man standing
First Person Shooter, or FPS, specifically refers to the perspective it offers to the player. This concept, which was first included in Shooter games, was strengthened with “Wolfenstein 3D” released in 1992.
Nowadays, it is possible to play not only action, but also car racing and other sports games from a first-person perspective.
