Mathias Penguilly: Doxing. You may have already heard about it when we talk about cases of online harassment, particularly in the school environment. The expert on the subject at L’Express is Amandine Hirou, senior reporter in the society department. So “doxing” is another word borrowed from the English language. But Amandine, I did some research, we can’t find it in the dictionary.
Amandine Hirou: No, it is a derivative of the verb “to document”, therefore provide proofs in French. So “doxing” consists of searching for, collecting and then disseminating – particularly via social networks – information on the identity and private life of a person (or an organization), without their authorization. This concerns his identity, his address, his telephone number, his passwords, or any other personal information.
