babylon Particularly follows silent film star Jack Conrad and Nelly LeRoy, who lands in Los Angeles hoping to become a big-screen star as talkies arrive. “I wanted to examine under the microscope the beginnings of an art form and an industry, when both were still finding their feet, and, on a deeper level, I liked the idea of observing a society in mutation”, explains Damien Chazelle in the film’s press kit. On Rotten Tomatoes, review aggregator, babylon divides the press (55% of positive opinions) and the spectators (51%) who were able to discover the film in theaters.
