Twitch streamer Pia “Shurjoka” Scholz and the streamer Theodor “Scurrows” Bottländer are currently having a dispute on social networks. We give you an overview and explain what is behind the conflict.
How did it come to this?
Cake TV has now released a series of videos about Shurjoka. In 5 of his last 20 videos (as of July 5th), the streamer appears in the thumbnail. MontanaBlack and Scurrows diligently use the videos as a basis for reactions. The streamers always encourage each other.
Shurjoka makes allegations against Scurrows
What is the current development? The trigger for the current escalation of the conflict was a joint talk by Scurrows with a twitch streamer who appears under the name “DerRadikale Demokratie”.
DerRadikale Demokratie received criticism from its own bubble for the conversation. So Shurjoka took the view that you shouldn’t even talk to Scurrows. She describes his statements as “inhuman things” that should not be given space (via Twitter).
In a stream, Shurjoka went on to say that Scurrows has openly spoken out against certain groups of people, including women and queers, on Twitter. She also addressed an incident that is said to have happened at gamescom 2017.
At that time, Scurrows molested her and intentionally filmed her in the cleavage. Shurjoka had already made these allegations in the past, for example in a series of tweets from 2020 (via Twitter). The Twitch streamer had always denied the allegations.
Finally, in a July 1 post, Scurrows said he’d had enough of being accused without evidence and threatened the streamer with legal action. In a video from July 4, he then wanted to show “The Truth” about the alleged incident at gamescom 2017.
A video should show the truth
What can you see in the video? The 15-minute video consists of an introduction by Scurrows, in which he summarizes the story from his point of view. He then shows a clip of the encounter between the two at gamescom.
In the clip, Shurjoka points out to Scurrows that not wanting to be filmed from above is rude. The streamer complies with the request and holds the cell phone further down, then the two talk briefly and then go their separate ways.
How is this discussed now? The names of Scurrows and Shurjoka are currently trending on German Twitter. There are said to be more than 10,000 tweets on the subject. However, looking at the discussion, one can wonder if the people involved actually saw the same video.
Because the interpretations of what was actually seen there differ widely. For some, the video is clear evidence: Shurjoka only made up the allegations that Scurrows was finally able to prove his innocence (via Twitter).
However, others see “content mache” here (via Twitter). They accuse Scurrows of not showing the entire stream, but only a short excerpt. Shurjoka herself said in a statement that she met Scurrows again after the scene shown.
This renewed encounter was then no longer so friendly.
Many other content creators now find themselves in a position to side with one side or the other. MontanaBlack, for example, had already made his position clear in advance: He said he knew what Scurrows had in his hand that would destroy Shurjoka’s credibility (via YouTube).
Some streamers who otherwise do not actually agree with Scurrows’ opinions and who have criticized him in the past are also taking his side (via Twitter).
The streamer Freiraumreh, in turn, announced that she wanted to stay away from all streamers who would show solidarity with Scurrows (via Twitter). This attitude is shared by some of those around her.
The fronts between the individual camps in the German twitch seem to be getting harder and harder.
