What is a ducted air conditioner and how do I adjust it?

Consisting of an outdoor unit reversible and a single indoor unit, a ducted air conditioner is part of the so-called “monospilt” equipment family. However, like a “multisplit” air conditioner, a ducted air conditioner makes it possible to cool, or warm up, the different rooms of the house almost invisible. Installed in the attic lost and not incorporating a compressor, the indoor unit emits little noise. Two modes of air regulation

Discreet installation

Connected to the reversible outdoor unit via a bi-tube connection copper pre-insulated, the indoor unit is installed on a load-bearing structure in a false ceiling or in the attic lost. It consists of a central block, and two plenums to suck in and distribute the air:

• the return plenum sucks in air. It incorporates a filter to clean the indoor air;
• the supply plenum distributes the air (cold or hot) in the rooms (up to 8 depending on the model).

These plenums are connected to grids of ventilation installed in rooms (wall or ceiling) using insulated ducts.

Conditional commissioning

Although it is advisable to hire a professional to install a ducted air conditioner, a very good handyman can prepare the site. By strictly following the manufacturer’s instructions, it is possible to position the outdoor and indoor units, pass the ducts… On the other hand, the commissioning of the device (vacuuming, circulation of fluids, etc.) cannot be carried out. Only a professional holder of a “refrigerant aptitude certificate”, therefore able to handle refrigerants, can take care of this.
