While bombs are still raining down on kyiv, President Zelensky admits that Ukraine will not join NATO. This is a victory for the Kremlin in the resumption of negotiations.
Three weeks after the outbreak of the war, Ukraine is on the verge of capitulation. The Russian offensive on kyiv and on many cities of the country causes great material damage but finally few human losses (compared to those of recent conflicts). Despite the sophisticated weapons sent by the West, despite the courage of its fighters and its population, the Ukrainian army cannot resist for long to this deluge of fire. Ukraine is isolated. NATO, which has been asked repeatedly by President Zelensky, does not want to intervene directly in the conflict for fear of starting World War III. There is no other choice but to negotiate a cease-fire. And peace.
“A NATO peace mission?”
President Volodymyr Zelensky has understood this: “It must be recognized” that Ukraine will not be able to join NATO, he declared on 15 March, thus in a way satisfying Russia.
But when negotiations resumed on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, Ukraine refused the “neutrality” on the model of Austria or Sweden that Moscow proposed.
After participating in a meeting with the Ukrainian president, Polish Deputy Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski called for a “peace mission” to be led by Nato. “I believe that we need a NATO peace mission, or even a broader international structure, but a mission that will be able to defend itself and that will act on Ukrainian territory, that will be on the territory of this country with the agreement of the Ukrainian president and government and it will not be a mission without defense,” he said.
NATO will not go to Ukraine
This is pure madness for Western observers, especially the United States, because there is no question of NATO being involved in Ukraine, even for a peace mission. This would be a “casus belli” that the United States does not want to hear about.
In fact, Nato is only the United States and the 27 other states of the organization have no say in the matter. They wisely follow America’s decisions, being themselves unable to defend themselves by their own military means. Everyone knows this. Zelenzky knows it. Putin knows it. But the United States is not a party to the conflict, nor is NATO or Europe.
Contrary to appearances, the Russian army is trying to minimize collateral damage and human losses. The proof: Moscow moves slowly, warns of the bombings so that the population can reach the shelters. This is nothing like the German bombing of London in 1940/41 or, more recently, the Kosovo conflict.
Ukraine undoubtedly ”neutralized
What can happen now? Negotiations are progressing and suggest that the conflict will be resolved fairly soon. In all likelihood, Ukraine will be “neutralized”, whatever Zelensky says. If this is the case, it will never be able to join either NATO or Europe. The defeat would then be total for the Western countries.
And there is a good chance that the global and European security system will be recomposed. Another world is emerging before our eyes. It will be dominated by the USA and China. Who can doubt it?

#Zelenskiy no longer insists on joining the#Ukraine at the#NATO (which is in the constitution of the country).
He will soon fold on the other points. The war may end before the country is 100% ruined.https://t.co/jdkSN2w4DL
