Who are the kidnappers?
Most kidnappers are women. According to the Center for International Child Abduction, that number is between 70 and 80%. Often it is the custodial parent who kidnaps the child. A marriage does not go well, there are problems, in general the woman takes the child with her.
Most children are abducted to Belgium and Germany, according to data from the center. The Dutch have many contacts with Belgians and Germans. They work just across the border, there are friendships and family lives there.
This is followed by migration countries such as Turkey, Poland and Morocco. There is also a third group of countries where asylum seekers come from.
