Prof. Dr. Oytun Erbaş answered Cansu Canan Özgen’s question, “What happens biologically when a person dies, Oytun?”
Erbaş said, “Cardiac deaths take quite a long time and in 60% of deaths, your heart stops first but your brain lives. Your heart stops for a moment but because your brain is alive at that moment, you say ‘What’s going on, your brain is alive but there is no pulse’. When you don’t wear oxygen, all your dopamine and enforphins are discharged into your brain. You have such a terrible ‘blue dream’. You feel like you are on clouds. Like you ate a kilo of ice cream. Cardiac arrest is equivalent to an orgasm. You have such vivid dreams, coming and going, vivid dreams with jumping. These dreams are like reality. Your whole life passes before your eyes. What you did, what you didn’t do, sentences like ‘I wish I hadn’t upset this, I did this very well’ pass through your mind.”
