Benign but extremely unpleasant, canker sores are favored by certain factors such as stress, fatigue, medication. If you are prone to canker sores, it is also useful to know the foods and drinks that can trigger or prolong them.

The canker sores are most often located inside the cheeks but they can also be located under the lips, under the tongue (floor of the mouth), on the tongue. It is a painful ulceration which generally heals spontaneously in 10 to 15 days. Their shape is round or oval. There may be only one at a time or several. Some people are more prone to canker sores than others. Good to know: canker sores are not infectious, so they are not contagious ! On the other hand, certain factors favor their occurrence, such as stressfatigue, medications such as NSAIDs (Anti-Inflammatory nonsteroidals), beta-blockers, bisphosphonates, various anti-cancer drugs. Certain foods can also trigger canker sores. What are they ?

Foods and drinks that promote canker sores

The nutslike the nutcashew, macadamia, pecanthe almonds, nutsthe pistachiosthe peanuts promote outbreaks of canker sores by a mechanical process. If you love these foods, there is a solution: soak them for 30 to 60 minutes in water before eating them.

The fruits that trigger canker sores act more by a chemical process (acidity) than by a mechanical process. The pineapplethe kiwi fruitthe tomatoes raw, citrus fruits (especially lemon), strawberries are concerned, as are the juices of these fruits. On the contrary, raw vegetables and green vegetables are considered alkalizing foods, that is to say very little acids.

Some cheeses are also to be avoided: Comté, Gruyère, Tome, Beaufort, Gouda. Finally, spices could also aggravate canker sores. According to people, coffee, particularly if it is strong, is also to blame, as are alcohols strong.

How to treat a mouth ulcer?

The canker sores heal spontaneously in two weeks. To relieve the symptoms, there is a simple method that works for most people. It is about rinse your mouth repeatedly with lukewarm salt water. Natural treatments (essential oils) sold in pharmacies can also be effective.

In case of canker sores, and to prevent them, it is better to favor a toothbrush with soft bristles and gently brush. In addition, if you are prone to canker sores, rest in times of stress and fatigue.

If the pain persists or in the event of recurrent ulcers, consult a doctor or a dentist. This may be the symptom of a call from a pathology underlying: anemiaceliac disease (intolerance to gluten), Crohn’s disease, Behcet’s disease.
