[Mis à jour le 11 janvier 2023 à 20h36] Fans of costume films can discover Mademoiselle de Joncquières on the TV program of Arte this Wednesday, January 11, 2023. This story, which takes place in the 18th century, is a comedy of manners which depicts the revenge of Madame de La Pommeraye (Cecile of France) on her lover, the Marquis des Arcis (Edouard Baer), who is tired of their union. If it is a period film in costumes, the feature film by Emmanuel Mouret is not necessarily a historical film, since the screenplay does not adapt a true story. On the other hand, it is an adaptation of a classic of literature.
Mademoiselle de Joncquières is not, however, a new adaptation of Dangerous Liaisons, as you might think from reading the script. The film freely revisits Jacques the fatalist and his mastersigned masterpiece Diderot published in 1784. The story of Mademoiselle de Joncquières thus finds itself in the novel as a story told by the innkeeper, with several digressions. Note also that this story had already been adapted before by Robert Bresson in The Ladies of the Bois de Boulogne in 1945.
Synopsis – Madame de La Pommeraye, a young widow, falls under the spell of the Marquis des Arcis. But after an affair of several years, she learns that this notorious libertine is tired of their relationship. Wounded, Madame de La Pommeraye decides to take revenge, with the help of Mademoiselle de Joncquières and her mother.
