The film adaptation of Olivier Bourdeaut’s bestseller by director Régis Roinsard, Waiting for Bojangles is released in theaters this Wednesday, January 5, 2022. But should we see it? Reviews are divided on the dramatic feature film, which garners a 2.8 / 5-star rating on Allociné’s aggregator.
Critics’ opinion. Overall, it is the staging that seems not to have convinced the journalists who were able to discover Waiting for Bojangles. “The staging struggles to give substance to the eccentricity of the characters” considers Here, when Le Monde deplores “a deceptively crazy staging”. “Of this crazy novel, remains a film a little wise”, laments Le Parisien, when Le Figaro denounces a feature film which “runs empty, [est] useless, annoying, delighted with himself “.
If the staging disappoints, Waiting for Bojangles “succeeds in moving” (Le Monde) and “makes the heart beat very hard” (Le Parisien). And this, thanks to the talent of the duo of actors who carry this crazy love story. Romain Duris and Virginie Efira are “magical as distraught lovers” (TéléLoisirs), while Télérama admits “touched in the heart [par] the heroes of this film. ”Spectators who are fans of the two actors can therefore immediately go to theaters.
