What becomes of Bode Miller? Ski legend has won everything but she experienced a drama after her withdrawal

What becomes of Bode Miller Ski legend has won everything

If he won everything during his fabulous career, the American alpine ski champion had to face a terrible family drama from which he got up with courage.

It is no longer on the slopes but remains associated with the greatest exploits of American alpine skiing. That’s good, US skiing is better, a year from the next Olympic Games in Milan. He even seems to live a new golden age, carried by the exploits of Mikaela Shiffrin, the thunderous return of Lindsey Vonn or the surprise victory of Breezy Johnson in the female descent of the Worlds in Saalbach on February 8.

The name of Bode Miller obviously remains associated with the great moments of skiing of the 2000s and 2010s. Six times of a globe rewarding the winner of the Alpine Ski World Cup (three times in handset, once in giant and two times in super-G), and twice winner of the big globe in the general classification in 2005 and 2008, Bode Miller dominated the tracks for almost two decades. Complete skier, he is one of the few to have imposed himself in the five disciplines, winning in particular the Olympic title of the handset in 2010 in Vancouver and added five other Olympic medals. By winning the bronze of the super-G at 36 at the Sochi Games in 2014, he even became the oldest Olympic medalist in history in alpine skiing.

Bode Miller finally hung up the skis in 2017, three years after final Olympic Games where he had moved the planet by paying tribute to his brother Snowboarder, who died the year preceding the Olympic Games in Sochi. With a fortune of several million dollars raised during his long career and his contracts as a ambassador of recognized brands like Head, the American turned to different lucrative activities, participating in the creation or development of several brands of Clothes or skiing.

His post-career, however, took a tragic turn in June 2018. While the former skier spent a family moment in California, his daughter Emmy, only 19 months old, escapes the vigilance of his loved ones and accidentally drowns in The swimming pool. Despite the rapid rescue intervention, the little girl does not survive. A drama that devastated the champion and his wife Morgan Beck, ex-player of volleyball.

Since this tragedy, the Miller couple has embarked on the prevention of infant drowning, which represent the leading cause of accidental mortality in children under the age of 4 in the United States. “Not a moment passes without my praying to have the opportunity to come back to that day and do things differently,” said Morgan Miller-Beck in a television interview broadcast a few months after the tragedy. “But today we can help other parents.”

A few months after Emmy’s death, the couple welcomed a new little boy, followed by two twins in 2019 and a little girl born in 2021. In parallel, the one who trusted the podiums for so many years developed new professional projects. Founder of a ski and technical clothing brand, he also regularly was a consultant for Eurosport during major competitions.
