A drug mainly sold in powder form, 2C-B is mainly consumed in a festive context for its psychedelic and hallucinogenic effects. Beware, however, of overdose and false names.
What is the 2C-B drug?
According to the French Observatory of Drugs and Addictive Tendencies (OFDT), THE 2C-B is a substance discovered in the 1970s. It is known as chemical 4-Bromo-2,5-dimethoxyphenethylamine. 2C-B is usually sold in powder form.
What are the effects of 2C-B?
“The 2C-B is a synthetic drug whose compound is both hallucinogenic and stimulant. Its structure is thus similar to amphetamine and mescaline, a hallucinogen derived from a plant“, explains Alexandra Boucher, head of the addictovigilance center of the Lyon University Hospital. 2C-B is therefore mainly consumed for its psychedelic, hallucinogenic properties (changes in sensory perceptions such as sight, touch, hearing), stimulating and empathogenic. According to the OFDT, this product is mainly consumed by informed users and amateurs of hallucinogens in a festive context.
Is it legal in France?
The 2C-B is registered on the 1961 UN international convention on narcotic drugs and appears in the Order of February 22, 1990 establishing the list of substances classified as narcotics in France. Its distribution on the territory is very limited, assures the OFDT.
What are the dangers of 2C-B?
The OFDT explains that, like other natural hallucinogenic molecules, poisoning can manifest as physical symptoms (nausea, vomiting, rise in temperature which can go as far as hyperthermia, tachycardia) but also through psychiatric adverse effects (anxiety, paranoia, psychotic state). And Alexandra Boucher to add: “Hallucinations can be very disturbing and the person can be very agitated and present a delusional picture or even be taken by surprise. seizures.”
Can you be addicted to 2C-B?
“There are quite few data on this subject because this drug does not have a very high level of experimentation in the general population. Beyond a level of restricted use in France, there is only few or no experimental animal or clinical studies human resources available on the subject of the addictogenic potential of 2C-B. But we cannot exclude that the risk of addiction exists. Like any psychotropic, there is necessarily a risk of adaptation of the body to more and more repeated exposures“, emphasizes Alexandra Boucher.
“Do not mix 2C-B with other drugs”
What precautions should be taken when consuming 2C-B?
“Care should be taken in classifying the product and distinguish between 2C-B and other mixtures, most commonly MDMA and ketamine, which are mistakenly sold under the same name. This mixture is often called “tucibi” or even “pink cocaine“. However, the effects are not the same as 2C-B“, warns the OFDT. Many websites offer 2C-B for sale but, as the OFDT explains, it is better to be careful about the container which may be different from the 2C-B. Alexandra Boucher also advises to do not consume it while being alone, to start with the smallest quantity, not to take it again if the desired effect does not arrive within the expected time, an overdose could lead to negative effects. It is also important to “do not mix 2C-B with other drugs which have the same stimulating profile because it will only accumulate the negative effects. This applies to all drugs or products of abuse. Polyconsumption increases the risk of deleterious effects: risk of agitation and disinhibition if the drug is combined with alcohol; increased risk of hallucinations when combined with other hallucinogens.”
What is the price of 2C-B?
According to testimonials published on the forum of the Psychoactif site, a gram of 2C-B would cost between 120 and 160 euros. A 10 mg tablet would therefore cost 1 to 3 euros.
