Sébastien Chenu, who was vice-president of the National Assembly, is RN candidate in the legislative elections in the North. The former MP hopes to be able to return to the hemicycle thanks to his results during the polls.
He became one of the voices of the National Rally and one of the party’s main representatives in the North. Sébastien Chenu is a candidate for re-election as RN deputy in the 19th constituency of the North for the legislative elections of June 30 and July 7. The spokesperson and vice-president of the Lepéniste party has been elected in these lands since 2017 and once again wishes to assert himself against other political forces. In addition to having been a deputy and once again claiming this position, Sébastien Chenu is regional councilor for Haust-de-France.
Sébastien Chenu hopes, like his RN comrades, to witness a large victory for the far right in the legislative elections and the obtaining of an absolute majority for the flame party in the National Assembly which could propel the president of the RN, Jordan Bardella, in Matignon. This scenario is far from guaranteed, firstly because a majority is not guaranteed, then because even in the event of an overwhelming victory it is up to Emmanuel Macron to choose a Prime Minister with only forced to appoint a personality capable of bringing together a majority of the votes in the hemicycle. The legislative polls are, however, optimistic about the results of the RN for the next elections.
What results for Sébastien Chenu in the legislative elections?
Elected deputy in 2017 and in 2022 in the 19th constituency of the North, Sébastien Chenu is starting a new campaign in this territory which seems favorable to him. He can therefore logically hope for a victory in the legislative elections of 2024. During the previous election, the Lepenist candidate had been in the lead from the first round, winning with 44.35% of the votes and 20 points more than the Nupes candidate who came in second position. The second round duel confirmed the lead of Sébastien Chenu then elected with 57.15% of the votes against 42.85% for the former left-wing coalition.
The European elections which took place at the beginning of June confirmed the trend which gives the advantage to the National Rally in the constituency and more broadly in the Nord department. During the European election, the RN list came first with 18.28% of the votes, when all the other lists received less than 6%. But this share of votes must be calculated in relation to the number of voters which represented barely more than half of the registered voters.
