what are his chances of being re elected in the 2024

The deputy for French people established abroad Meyer Habib is a candidate for re-election in the legislative elections. Is he the favorite in his constituency?

Controversial figure in the National Assembly, Meyer Habib is a candidate for re-election in the 2024 legislative elections. He is one of the rare outgoing deputies to have followed the initiative of the boss of the Republicans, Eric Ciotti, of an alliance with the Rassemblement national. Mayer Habib is therefore running in the 8th constituency of French people established abroad (Cyprus, Malta, Greece, Israel, Palestinian territories, Italy, Turkey, etc.) under the dual LR/RN nomination. What are the chances of re-election for this fervent supporter and friend of Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu?

If we stick to Meyer Habib’s last appearance in front of his voters, the outgoing MP can be confident: as recently as April 16, 2023, Meyer Habib won a partial legislative election in his constituency, with 53.99 % of votes cast in the second round, against a Macronist candidate. This exceptional ballot was organized following the invalidation of his 2022 election by the Constitutional Council, for reasons of “irregularities and maneuvers [qui] were, in view of the difference in votes observed in the second round, likely to alter the sincerity of the vote”. In 2022, the victory of the LR-affiliated MP was narrower, with only 50.58% of the votes.

LR behind Reconquest in the Europeans

But if we look at the results of the European elections in the 8th constituency from abroad, nothing assures the victory of Meyer Habib: the list that came first was that of Reconquête, led by Marion Maréchal, with 24.86% . The LR list took second place with 22.13%. Furthermore, if we add up the scores of the parties now united in the Popular Front for the legislative elections, it is the left which achieved the best result, with 26.24% of the votes. Renaissance achieved a score of 11.48%, ahead of the National Rally (10.99%).

Thanks to his double investiture, Meyer Habib will still be able to count on voters from the National Rally to give him their vote: after all, the two parties gathered 33.12% of the votes in the European elections, far ahead of the left. The outgoing deputy could, however, face competition from a Reconquest candidate invested in his constituency, Guillaume Bensoussan. His other opponents will be Yael Lerer (New Popular Front), Caroline Yadan (presidential majority), Valérie Chartrain (Volt), David Bizet (Independent) and Benjamin Sigoura (SE).
