Power will change this spring in domestic handball. Riihimäki Cocks, who won the previous eight men’s Finnish championships, bowed to BK-46 from Raseborg in the semi-finals. BK-46 took the semifinals by a clean match of 3-0.
The dynasty of the BK-46 dates back to the turn of the millennium, from the 1980s onwards, but it has been 16 years since its previous championship. Now on the field shines the son of his own village, who has had success in Cocks in the previous decade Nico Rönnberg.
Rönnberg was also an absolute figure on the field on Saturday, when he bounced as many as 14 goals. BK-46 defeated Cocks 31-27 and made their way to the finals with 3-0.
– Hard to find words, I’m really proud of the whole team. I played all three matches in my opinion, Rönnberg praised.
In the upcoming finals, BK-46 will face Dicken from Helsinki, who defeated Grankulla in the IFK semi-finals 3-0. The next week’s break will be needed.
– Now it feels like the body is pretty tired and the places are sore. It is a big deal that now there is a chance to get a son to Karelia, Rönnberg predicts.
– I have a red and white heart, let’s go and give our all and see if it’s enough or not, Rönnberg said.
Big brother dies as head coach
Restoring the championship is a family affair in Raseborg, as the team is led by Nico’s big brother Andreas Rönnberg,
– We play good handball. We have got the defense in a completely different condition than last year. We ran more than an opponent who started to get tired, head coach Rönnberg saw.
– Little things. Cocks could have won today as well as we did. We were perhaps a little colder when the decisive minutes were played.
The former top player knows how different it is to coach than to play hard-betting matches.
– This is how the mood as a coach is different than as a player. Now it feels calmer, while as a player it would get hotter, Rönnberg compared.
Cocks dramatic spring
Cocks ’head coach changed dramatically in the middle of the playoffs when Kaj Kekki left his post. Danish Lasse Boesen piloted the people of Riihimäki in the main struggles of the season.
– We’ve had a lot of problems this season. Four players left and three new ones came in December. The coach left us. But we fought these three matches to the end, no one gave up. BK-46 has earned their final place, there is no explanation, Cocks credit player Teemu Tamminen admitted.
Next season’s team will take shape later, but Tamminen is not worried about it yet.
– There will be turnover in the team, but we have time to practice. Now we didn’t have time to practice with new players except during the Christmas break and the national team break, Tamminen pointed out.
At the moment of disappointment, Tamminen wanted to highlight the positive aspects of things.
– It’s nice to have new champions. The magazines now write about people other than Riihimäki’s Cocks, Tamminen hose.
