Wetland restoration continues | SVT News

During 2021 and 2022, approximately 39 hectares of peat land were restored per year in Östergötland. However, this only applies to the last two years. Other types of wetlands have dominated during the last ten-year period of restoration work, totaling almost 260 hectares.

Gotland’s restoration work affects significantly larger areas. Over the past ten years, over 600 hectares have been restored. That figure applies to all types of wetlands.

The work to restore wetlands takes place to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and increase biological diversity.
