In the middle of the squares there are sensors in the ground that measure the moisture content at a depth of thirty centimetres. Also today is mowing for the first time, and that looks closely. Volunteers and employees of Landscape Heritage Utrecht work with a kind of clipper for grass and a square, blue mold. “That way it is always just as short, and also an equally large piece,” says Edwin Pos, researcher at Utrecht University. “What has been mowed goes in numbered bags to the laboratory.”
