Western Digital PS5 SSD officially licensed by Sony

Western Digital has announced a partnership with Sony to relaunch one of its most popular PS5 compatible SSDs, the WD_BLACK SN850 NVMe SSD, officially licensed.

WD_BLACK SN850 NVMe SSD It was first released in February 2021. Western Digital stated in July 2021 that the PS5 has the specs needed to expand its internal SSD storage. Now, the product is being renamed WD_BLACK SN850 NVMe SSD for PS5 consoles and comes in a new package similar to other official PS5 licensed products.

Price will be different for PlayStation licensed WD_BLACK SN850

The new licensed product comes with a new price. The 1TB version will be priced at $169.99, while the 2TB version will be priced at $279.99. On paper, this is cheaper than the SN850’s initial launch price. It was originally priced at $249.99 for 1TB and $429.99 for 2TB. However, the new licensed product will be more expensive than the standard Western Digital product.

The 1TB version was recently available for £99.74 as part of Amazon Prime Day. It’s currently $119.99 in the Western Digital US store, and the PS5 licensed product is priced at $169.99. Although both products are the same, we can see that the PlayStation branded version affects the prices. The product has a PCIe Gen4 x4 interface. It has read speeds up to 7000 MB/s and write speeds up to 5300 MB/s.

The only difference outside of the new packaging is that the PS5 licensed version has a light blue LED instead of orange. You can find the video where we upgraded PlayStation 5 SSD using WD_BLACK SN850.
