Börje Salming is still being mourned and is so incredibly missed.
Now the Swedish hockey icon will have his very own gala in Stockholm.
Where the aim is to honor his great deed and raise money for ALS research.
It was November 24, 2022 that Börje Salming tragically passed away in the sequels of the nerve disease ALS. The Swedish hockey icon left a big void behind him and has been both celebrated and mourned warmly after his passing.
Börje’s passing
He was 71 years old and is seen as one of Swedish hockey’s absolute greatest of all time. Already when Salming received the news that he was affected by ALS, he and his family started their own fundraiser in the “Börje Salming ALS Foundation” to donate money to ALS research and families who have been exposed to the incurable disease.

Since then, several different forms of tribute have been carried out to raise money for Börje’s foundation and ALS research in general. Recently, the “Game for Börje” was played in Brynäs where a lot of old hockey legends gathered to play a charity match and draw attention to ALS.

Tribute to Salming
Now comes the next beautiful gesture after Salming’s passing. On April 26 this year, “An evening for Börje” will be organized at Berns in Stockholm, where the 71-year-old’s great work in life will be celebrated and the main goal is to raise money for ALS research.

All surplus from the gala goes to Börje Salming’s own ALS foundation and the Swedish celebrity elite have been invited to make the tribute gala memorable. Popular artists Tommy Körberg and Helen Sjöholm perform and Börje’s wife will be among the guests Pia Salming and his older brother Stig Salming.

“We are happy”
Hockey profiles that Mats Sundin and Nicklas Lidström will also be present, as well as Sweden’s commander-in-chief Micael Bydén. All three were close friends of Börje and the trio are also ambassadors for the Börje Salming ALS Foundation.
The founder of the ALS Foundation, Karin Karlströmis proud to arrange “An evening for Börje” at Berns.
“We are happy to be able to organize an evening for Börje and that so many well-known profiles from hockey, business and artists such as Helen Sjöholm and Tommy Körberg are participating and standing up for the foundation,” says Karlström in a press release.
