Carlos “ocelote” Rodríguez Santiago is a former LoL pro and was the team boss of G2 Esports from 2015 to 2022. Rekkles also played for the team under his leadership. But after just a year, they parted ways. Now ocelote has commented on the situation at the time in an interview and doesn’t leave a good hair on his former player. But he himself is controversial.
How did Rekkles fare at G2 Esports?
What happened now? In an interview with e-sports journalist Thorin (via YouTube), the former head of G2 Esports shared various anecdotes, for example about his players Caps and Perkz or the world championships.
The two also talk about Rekkles.
“In many cases he is the worst team member you can have”
What does ocelot say exactly? Above all, he criticizes Rekkles’ ability to work in a team. Any player who had a rough idea of a functioning team would not get along with the pro.
The professional is said to have ignored instructions from management and only had a small pool of champions. In Scrims, he is said to have muted his mic and simply picked a champion of his liking. This made it difficult to work with him.
He is, in many cases, the worst teammate you can have on a team. Of course he’s the best man you can have when it counts and he’s fed [Anmerkung: viel Gold besitzt und so anderen voraus ist].
The former team boss also admits that even before the signing he knew it was very unlikely to work out.
When I was able to get it, I thought, ‘The probability of failure is high. But the probability of an incredible success is not zero.’
What does ocelot criticize about the change? After the season hadn’t gone well, a split between the team and Rekkles was inevitable. But even here there should have been problems.
Thorin reports that Rekkles himself said he wanted to prevent G2 Esports from making a profit from this transfer. He is said to have tried to reduce his market value himself. G2, on the other hand, did not want to sell the professional to a competitor from the LEC. So Rekkles ended up in the second French division.
He shot himself in the foot. I believe good things happen to good people and bad things happen to bad people. Of course there are isolated cases, but that was not the case with Rekkles. He ended up in the second division as he deserved.
ocelote is heavily criticized, is considered hot-blooded and conflict-loving
Who criticizes Rekkles? ocelote was team principal of G2 Esports until 2022, but then had to leave. His fate was a video on Twitter in which he celebrated with Andrew Tate.
Former kickboxer Andrew Tate has become one of the most notorious figures on the internet, mostly for his views and behavior towards women. This is seen by many as misogynistic.
G2 Esports then announced that they did not support “any form of misogyny” and ocelote left the team.
But even during his time as team boss, he had allowed himself to have a few freaks. He called other LoL teams stingy and called Twitch streamer Nickmercs a “degenerate with a fragile ego”.
