On Tuesday evening, a large number of ambulances were called out to the Au peninsula in northern Switzerland. 25 people had been injured when they passed over glowing coals and for 13 of them it was so bad that they had to be taken to hospital.
According to Swiss media, this is a “team event” that came to an abrupt end.
“Right now we can only say that there are no serious injuries,” a spokesman for the company, whose staff was injured, told Zürcher Unterländer.
Going over glowing coals is considered a kind of ritual. According to the police, the participants had to walk one after the other over the few meters long coal field. The pain did not come immediately but with some delay.
The last time a similar accident occurred in Switzerland was in 2003, when a “motivational weekend” ended with a floorball team injuring a player.
