Frölunda forced a sixth game in the semi-final series against Skellefteå.
But already during the match, Roger Rönnberg got everyone fired up – with the most unexpected words about one of his star players.
Frölunda had the knife against his throat before Sunday’s fifth game in the semifinal series against Skellefteå. Away games awaited, and if Frölunda had lost, they would have finished for the season, and the conditions before the match could clearly have been better.
New lead heavy injury
Since before, Gustav Rydahl and Filip Hasa have been missing for the Gothenburg team, and before relegation it was also announced that Tom Nilsson, an important back, would miss the match after being injured by a crosschecking in match four. And it would get even worse, when they got another break on star center Mikael Ruohomaa.
In the first period he was involved in Isac Heen’s goal which meant 1-0. Ruohomaa then continued to play in the first period, and parts of the second as well, before suddenly leaving the locker room with a suspected injury. TV4 saw how Ruohomaa – apparently limping – walked into the dressing room alone. It was not at all what Frölunda needed during the match, but Roger Rönnberg took it all in stride.
Rönnberg’s unexpected words
In the middle of the match, he was interviewed about the whole thing, and he then responded with the most unexpected words.
– He has a friend from Oulu who is visiting and whom he has not seen for a long time. They would actually go down to town and have a coffee, Rönnberg said, and continued:
– We’ll see if he comes back in the third if he has time…
Rönnberg was perhaps in a good mood when Frölunda had acquired a three-goal lead, but in the third period the home team came back and with three straight goals they took the match to extra time. But despite all the injuries to Frölunda, they managed to decide in extra time, and thus a sixth match awaits, in Gothenburg.
Afterwards, Rönnberg was again in a really jovial mood.
– At some point, Skellefteå will lose in overtime, we thought. I think TV4 should somehow be able to give us an extra kroner through our series going to seven games, says Rönnberg jokingly.
