With over 180 new series and over 100 new seasons, Netflix has once again blown up all watch lists this year, making it difficult for us series fans to choose when looking for the next binge. Because in addition to high-flyers like Wednesday and Dahmer, there were some excellent new shows to discover.

For this ranking we have only new originals and co-productions of the Netflix streaming service to be included in the rating. The series must have appeared for the first time in 2022 and at least 100 reviews exhibited by movie pilots. Before that, you can also read the Netflix ranking for 2021 again.

The best new Netflix series of 2022: 20th to 11th place

The best Netflix series 10th place: 1899

In 1899, the people on board the ocean liner Kerberos want to leave life in Europe behind and emigrate to the USA. On the high seas, however, they become involved in mysterious incidents that shake their reality and existence. After the success of Dark, the new series by Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar also relies on a dark puzzle experience that allows fans to delve deep into hidden clues and scientific-philosophical theories.

The best Netflix series 9th place: Archives 81

Archive 81 horror series follows archivist Dan Turner as he is tasked with restoring damaged video footage of college student Melody Pendras documenting mysterious happenings in a New York apartment complex in the 1990s. The atmospheric techno horror captivates with a dark mystery about sects, occultism and dangerous mould. But the biggest horror is that Netflix mercilessly canceled Archive 81 after one season.
The best Netflix series 8th place: All Of Us Are Dead

School is a struggle for survival. South Korean horror series All Of Us Are Dead takes this to the extreme as Hyosan School becomes the epicenter of a zombie apocalypse and the entire student body is suddenly thrown into survival mode. With a pinch of bitter social criticism, sensitivity for the young characters and hordes of aggressive infected, the series unleashes a fast-paced mix of high school drama and bloody zombie action.

The best Netflix series 7th place: The Lincoln Lawyer

Based on Michael Connelly’s Comans, the Netflix crime series follows attorney Mickey Haller as he roams around Los Angeles in his Lincoln Town Car, handling numerous cases left to him by a deceased fellow attorney. Here it is less the overarching case of a tech mogul accused of murder, but the sympathetic ensemble of characters in Mickey’s world that inspires.
The best Netflix series 6th place: Sandman

With Sandman, Netflix has broken the self-imposed adaptation curse and finally adapted a popular template (in this case, Neil Gaiman’s legendary graphic novel) into a worthy film. The dark fantasy series about the dream ruler, a member of the 7 Eternals who has returned from captivity after more than 100 years, creates a fantastic world through a wide variety of characters, themes and genres that is defined by dreams and human desires.

The best Netflix series 5th place: Absolute fiasco: Woodstock ’99

A new incarnation was launched in 1999 to mark the 30th anniversary of the legendary Woodstock Festival. Unfortunately, Woodstock III didn’t become the music festival for eternity, but rather a frightening disaster. Chronicling the catastrophic escalation, Absolute Fiasco: Woodstock ’99 is not only a shocking documentary, but also a tremendously entertaining one.

The best Netflix series 4th place: Dahmer

The Dahmer success came out of nowhere. With little publicity in advance and despite all the controversy, Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s dark true-crime series about serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer (played by Evan Peters), who killed a total of 17 men between 1978 and 1991, climbed the streaming charts and secured 3rd place in the most watched English-language Netflix series – only surpassed by Stranger Things 4 and the next place in this ranking.

The best Netflix series 3rd place: Wednesday

In the competition between the two most successful Netflix series of the year, the surprise hit Wednesday came out on top with over a billion hours watched in the first few weeks. Jenna Ortega’s take on the morbidly sarcastic Addams Family daughter is already cult. Whether it’s the countless one-liners, the fantastic Harry Potter-esque school setting, the lovable outsider characters, the twisting crime plot and, last but not least, a dance scene for eternity: With Wednesday, Netflix has finally found a fantasy success that does almost everything right .

Best Netflix Series 2nd place: Cyberpunk: Edgerunners

Set in the world of the immensely popular video game Cyberpunk 2077, the anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners tells the story of teenager David, whose life becomes increasingly dominated by crime, violence and cybernetic body modifications. With a detailed sci-fi world and a rough and rough style, Edgerunners delighted fans of the gaming template as well as those who had no previous contact with Night City’s underworld.

The best Netflix series #1: Heartstopper

If we could all use something more, it’s love. And there was more than enough of that in the best Netflix series of 2022. In the comic adaptation Heartstopper, British teenagers Charlie and Nick’s emotions are turned upside down when their friendship blossoms into love. The sugar-sweet boy-meets-boy rom-com took the hearts of viewers by storm and enthralled with its honest portrayal of young love – it’s not without reason that two more seasons have already been ordered.
