Weather warnings are dense in the north – hear from SMHI about how the system works

So far in January, SMHI has issued five weather warnings and seven partial warnings for Västerbotten. It is still some distance from January of last year, when nine main warnings and eleven partial warnings were issued. Nevertheless, a certain weariness about the warnings is expressed in, for example, SVT’s comment field on social media.

– The purpose of SMHI’s weather warnings is for society to be able to build better crisis preparedness and a warning is issued when the weather can cause disturbances in society, says Sofia Söderberg, meteorologist at SMHI.

Follows up the consequences of the weather

Regarding the criticism that the warnings would be exaggerated, she says:

– After all, we continuously follow up on weather events and associated consequences so that we can fine-tune the warning system if necessary.

Is there a difference between the weather warnings in the north and the south? Hear Sofia Söderberg’s answer in the clip above.
