Risk of icy conditions and canceled trains

Smhi has issued a yellow weather warning over large parts of Götaland and Svealand, warning that the wet snow and rain can freeze quickly due to sub-zero temperatures on the roads. This can lead to icy roads and the risk of traffic accidents, delays in train traffic and canceled flights.

Uncertain prognosis

It is still uncertain exactly where the precipitation will fall during Christmas Day and which roads will have such low temperatures that they freeze. So road users should pay attention in Christmas traffic.

Drive on the big roads

Even though the severe weather can lead to queues on the major traffic routes, the Swedish Transport Agency urges all travelers to stay on major roads.

– It is much safer to drive on the major roads. Especially if it’s snowing or slippery. We always prioritize repairing those roads first when it comes to winter road maintenance. Center rails and speed cameras also mean that the speed usually goes down, said Katarina Wolffram, press communicator at the Swedish Transport Administration before Christmas.
