weather forecasts which departments on alert

THUNDERSTORMS. Météo France placed five departments on orange alert this Tuesday, August 16, 2022. Heavy storms are expected in the south of the country. Indeed, Météo France announces violent storms accompanied by hail on the south of the Massif Central and the Aude.

[Mis à jour le 16 août 2022 à 11h18] This Tuesday, August 16, 2022, France should see rain and thunderstorms fall in the afternoon. Météo France has even placed five departments on orange alert. These are Hérault, Aveyron, Gard, Aude and Tarn. However, the North will not be spared since the public establishment provides that “a rainy-stormy system approaches the northwest of the country. At the front on the southwest and east of the country, the weather is still quiet.” It is therefore in the afternoon that the damage is to be expected in the south: “The storms will become more violent during the afternoon in the south of the Massif Central (Tarn and Aveyron) as well as in the Aude. These storms will be accompanied by strong electrical activity, heavy hailstorms and heavy accumulations of precipitation.” Météo France announces 20 to 40 mm of precipitation in one hour and winds of up to 80 and even 100 km/h.

It will even be necessary to wait until the end of the afternoon to see the storms reach the Gard and the Hérault, the two other departments placed in orange vigilance. Météo France wants to be very suspicious and encourages residents to take their precautions: “Thunderstorms will be accompanied by violent phenomena, very strong gusts, hail and marked electrical activity. Eddy phenomena, waterspouts or even tornadoes could also occur.” During the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, thunderstorms could arrive in the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur region. This is why Météo France indicates that its vigilance alert may change accordingly soon.
