Weather chaos at the WC – the Swedish medal hope will have to wait

During Saturday morning, the idea was that Perseus Karlström would compete in the favorite distance of 20 kilometers. But the Swedish medal hope’s preparations were seriously disrupted by the storm that moved in over Budapest and delayed the intended start.

Instead of the competition starting at 08:30, the start was postponed to the preliminary time of 10:50, to try to avoid the worst of the storm.

– It’s important to be prepared for the unprepared and if you’re an experienced and strong athlete, you can handle it, so I think Perseus can handle it, says TV4 expert Carolina Klüft.

Although the weather forecast indicates that it will break up later in the day, the heavy downpour could affect the competitions inside the athletics arena.

-These tracks specifically are a model called Mondo and it is very fast and doesn’t let any water through, it settles like a big puddle over the whole track. You will have to wait until the water runs out and then you have to go out and try to dry up, because right now it’s freezing, says TV4 expert Michel Tornéus ahead of today’s other competitions inside the athletics arena.

The delays in the schedule also mean that the broadcast in TV4 Play is pushed forward and restarts at 10:30 a.m. again. You follow the entire week’s broadcasts from the Athletics WC via TV4 Play.
