The mask will no longer be compulsory in closed places subject to the vaccination pass from February 28, with the exception of transport, the Ministry of Health said on Friday, highlighting the “improvement of the health situation”.
With 168,480 cases and 289 deaths per day, for the second week of February, the incidence of Covid-19 is starting to drop in France. After these first signs of improvement, the first announcements of reductions in health measures follow. After removing the obligation to wear a mask outside, wearing a mask will therefore no longer be compulsory in closed places where the vaccination pass is necessary to enter.
“The vaccine pass allows us in a context where the epidemic pressure is greatly reduced, and as we have already done before this wave, to remove the obligation to wear a mask in establishments open to the public”Health Minister Olivier Véran told AFP.
In other words, here are the locations:
- Establishments dedicated to leisure activities
- The restaurants
- The bars
- The fairs
On the contrary, he “will be kept in transport and closed places not subject to the vaccination pass”detailed the ministry in a press release.
Good news for cinemas whose attendance had drastically dropped and for which, Marc-Olivier Sebbag, general delegate of the National Federation of French Cinemas rejoiced in the newspaper The world : “This is good news, the signal that we can resume normal life. This will allow our audience to return more massively to theaters.”
Neither is the mask no longer compulsory at school
Jean-Michel Blanquer, the Minister of National Education, spoke about a new simplified health protocol in schools also announced that the mask will no longer be compulsory outside in schools upon returning from the February holidays.

Another test relief for positive people
Another reduction in sight for this end of the month: the screening system for people who have had contact with a person who tested positive. “Contact persons will only have to carry out a single test (self-test or antigen test or RT-PCR test) on D2 (i.e. two days after having received the information of having been in contact with a person tested positive) instead of three tests today (on D0, D2 and D4)”the ministry said.
As for the health pass which is still being debated, Prime Minister Jean-Castex, to announce, envisage being able to lift this constraint at the end of March or the beginning of April depending on the health situation and the opinion of professionals.
