On Wednesday, the one who shot the World Cup silver in the 50-meter miniature rifle prone competition Marianne Palo got revenge for his weapon on the stage of the World Cup in Baku. The Olympic positional competition went to Palo under the bench, when the weapon, which had been out of order for a long time, did not agree to cooperate.

– The gun has been out of order for two and a half years and no fault can be found, Palo, 25, said fresh after the World Championship silver.

Silver came away with a result of 626.1 points, which according to Palo can be considered a basic result at his current level. The SE score of 629.6 was created at the beginning of July.

– My mood has been strong this season and I went to the competition to shoot with a relaxed feeling, even though there had been problems with the gun and there were problems in this competition as well.

“Sometimes it occurred to me that I might be high”

The disappointment of the posture competition was overwhelming, and after talking with the coaches, Palo was able to focus on the performance of the lying competition.

– However, the posture competition has been my main sport so far. It’s a big deal when you get a medal after that.

– After all, a Pohjainen never gives up, Palo from Isostakyrö added.

During the past season, Palo says that he has developed especially mentally, and his shooting has been relaxed throughout the season. Palo had also had a conversation with himself in the World Cup silver competition.

– Of course, at times it crossed my mind that I might be high, but I always let the thought pass and just focused on the next shot.

I aimed at the spring European Championships

The World Cup silver put a smile on my face and congratulations had rained widely from outside the close circle as well. Paloa was especially warmed by the congratulations from his hometown on Facebook.

The World Championships in Baku were the final race of the season for Palo. In terms of an Olympic place, everything is still possible, because the positions of the position competition will still be distributed in the spring of next year.

– Now a short break and after that we will start practicing with the air rifle. The next sights are then the EC competitions in the spring in air gun and gunpowder sports.

Palo’s medal is Finland’s second at the World Shooting Championships in Baku. The first one was taken home by the World Championship silver medalist in skeet Eetu Kallioinen. At the same time, Kallioinen won Finland an Olympic place in the sport. In addition Aleksi Leppä secured an Olympic spot with his sixth place in the World Cup finals of the miniature rifle.
