Ejected from the M5, a movement which propelled him to the prime ministership, Choguel Maïga is today politically weakened. His comrades in the M5, like Mountaga Tall, turned their backs on him. And his own political party, the Patriotic Movement for Renewal (MPR), is not one of the heavyweights in the local political backwater. He is trying to rally a section of the political class at a time when some are once again calling for his departure.
