Season 4 in Diablo 4 started on May 14th and players could expect a big patch. There was no preload. Blizzard has commented on this and notes: Things should be different in the future.
On Tuesday, May 14th the time had finally come: the new season arrived in Diablo 4 and numerous players were waiting to download the new features hours before the release. At the start at 7 p.m. there was a setback because: The season came with a big patch and pre-loading was not possible.
While we were accompanying the start of the season with the ticker, we read about players who had to load 11 GB, as “Compadre” noted in the comments section of the ticker. Others had a smaller patch of around 7GB in front of them. The community expressed dissatisfaction with this in the Blizzard forum and on social media. Community Development Director Manager Adam Fletcher then responded with a post.
Players should have a larger time window in the future
What was the problem? In the Blizzard forum, numerous users discussed whether there would be a preload hours before the start of the new season. That was the starting question of the thread, posted by “LaXMoB” at 4:15 p.m. on May 14th.
Diablo expert Rob2628 wrote on At 6:40 p.m. he wrote in a new post on X (formerly Twitter):
Starting Season 4 without a pre-patch download sounds like a really bad idea for a lot of people who don’t have access to insanely fast internet speeds. I wish that was different to allow for a fairer start to the season…
What does Blizzard want to do better? Adam Fletcher reported to the Blizzard forum, but also to X, with a message to the community. He writes in the forum that there have been discussions about improving the process in the future and giving players more time to prepare with downloads.

Do you think there should be a preload before the new season? Or do you think it’s not all that bad? Although the lack of a preload and the huge rush of players at the start of the season pushed the servers a little to their limits, there is still enough time to level up.
And it’s definitely happening much faster this season than before. The XP gain has been increased enormously in world levels 2 to 4 and there are new, cool activities that will earn you a lot of XP.
