“We stand behind the Spanish national team”

“All players deserve to practice football in a safe environment and to be treated with respect, on and off the field. We support Jennifer Hermoso and the Spanish national team. Discrimination and harassment will never be tolerated in the world of football,” writes SvFF with the hashtag #contigojenni, in Swedish “With you Jenni”.

The statement comes after Luis Rubiales, president of the Spanish Football Federation, kissed World Cup gold medalist Jennifer Hermoso on the mouth after the final against England (1-0) a little over a week ago.

Hermoso has described the kiss as assault. Rubiales believes that it took place with consent.

Rubiales has been banned by the International Football Association Fifa for three months under investigation, and on Monday the Spanish Federation issued a statement calling on the 46-year-old to resign.

All Spanish World Cup players and coaches, apart from national team captain Jorge Vilda, have boycotted national team games under the current management.

Sweden, who took the World Cup bronze, will meet the World Cup gold team Spain in the Nations League on September 22 in Gothenburg.
