Presented in preview at the Cannes Film Festival, the film “Furiosa” is an explosive new dive into the post-apocalyptic universe of “Mad Max” which promises to seduce fans of “Fury Road”. Our review.
Difficult to repeat the feat of Mad Max: Fury Road, a post-apocalyptic rock opera that completely shook the Croisette, the critics and the spectators. Nine years later, however, Georges Miller took up the challenge by offering the public the opportunity to discover Furiosaprequel on the youth of the character played by Charlize Theron, whose role this time is taken on by Anya Taylor-Joy. And nine years later, it was the Croisette which had the scoop on the event before its release in cinemas.
In Furiosa, Georges Miller further explores the war for resources between the different clans of the Wasteland to tell the story of revenge, the fight of a survivor from whom everything was taken to regain power over her oppressors. Let’s say it right away, the comparison with Mad Max: Fury Road would not be honest: where the spectator followed a round-trip chase in a very precise aesthetic universe (be it the sets, the costumes, the photography) that the effect of surprise no longer operates with Furiosa. Thus, the beginning of the film is much too long and talkative and, like an old bike, takes a little time to start.
But as soon as we finally get past the second (part), the one where the heroine finally begins to regain power, it becomes enjoyable. Grace to its violent and explosive action scenes (Georges Miller films the movement like no other)her rock aesthetic so unique and the interpretations of its actors (Anya Taylor-Joy proves once again that she has the shoulders to carry the franchise, when Chris Hemsworth is astonishing in this role against employment), Furiosa is a tasty pleasure that we would be wrong to deny ourselves. The feature film directed by Georges Miller is released in theaters on Wednesday 22 may.
