We have now known for some time that it is Saudi Arabia which will host the 2024 eSports World Cup, scheduled for this summer in its capital: Riyadh. It must be said that for several years, the country led by Mohamed Ben Salmane has shown interest in video games and pop culture in general. A first preview of the program has also been revealed, with the added bonus of the names of the games that will be in competition. Mobile Legends Bang Bang, Counter-Strike 2, DoTA 2, Honor of Kings, StarCraft 2, PUBG Mobile, Street Fighter 6, Overwatch 2, Tekken 8, EA Sports FC 24, Rocket League, Rainbow Six Siege, Apex Legends, Fortnite, clearly we couldn’t be more eclectic, proving that iconic PC games and mobile titles can coexist without the slightest problem.
“With a mix of iconic PC games and some of the world’s biggest mobile esports titles, the Esports World Cup symbolizes the past, present and future of esports.”said Ralf Reichert, CEO of the eSports World Cup Foundation, before adding that “StarCraft II, Dota 2, Counter-Strike 2, and Mobile Legends Bang Bang and Honor of Kings are all exceptional titles for the Esports World Cup. From games that fundamentally defined this industry, to the most loved mobile titles by all a new group of players, we are putting together a World Cup capable of connecting and elevating clubs, players, fans and the entire esports community.”
But that’s not all, we also learn that 2 French structures will be among those selected on file by the EWC, namely Team Vitality and Karmine Corp. They will be alongside the 30 selected, knowing that Saudi Arabia has announced an endowment of a fairly unique amount with no less than 60 million dollars spread over all the games. Enough to motivate each team to give their all, since the amount received by the teams can climb up to 6 figures, provided they launch into new games, while an extension has been promised if the audiences and the engagement with fans follows behind. This is also the reason why Vitality decided to focus on Starcraft 2 and Tekken 8, just to increase the number of things to achieve feats next summer.
