“We just have to adapt…”

Armand Duplantis finally enters this year’s WC.
He does it with the wind as the big challenge.
– We will have to adapt, says Greg Duplantis.

The World Championships in Athletics have been a big disappointment for Sweden so far. Perseus Karlström does have one medal, but after that there have been few Swedish successes, and not a single additional medal.

The challenge for Mondo

But the great hope for gold has not even entered the competitions yet. On the night of Saturday, Armand Duplantis skips the qualification for the final, which is during the night of Monday. And there is hardly a bigger gold favorite during the entire athletics world championship.

Mondo himself says that he is in great shape, and that on a good day he can challenge for a new world record. But there is a big challenge during the races in Eugene.

– In this arena, the width is always a problem. Sometimes it’s a challenge, but sometimes it’s very good. We just have to adapt to what happens, says his father and coach Greg to Radiosporten.

“Comes in and swirls”

It is above all the protruding grandstand roofs that can cause the wind to swirl in the arena, making it difficult to assess.

– If there is wind from the northwest, then it comes in and swirls around inside the arena. It’s not crazy if there aren’t strong winds. I’ve been here three times this year, so who knows what’s going to happen?, says Greg.

Team Duplantis comes into the WC and jumps as if it were any competition.

– We are just preparing for this as if it were a normal competition. We want to do what we always do. Then, of course, there are expectations and pressure than usual. But we try to deal with it as usual.
