“We have to be honest and say it”

Frida Karlsson, Ebba Andersson and Linn Svahn are clear.
Now the star trio wants to see a clear improvement in the national team next season.
– You have to be able to say that correctly, says Svahn.

There were not exactly happy faces in the Swedish camp after the end of the season in Falun this weekend. Linn Svahn had the chance to overtake Jessie Diggins in the fight for the overall World Cup, but it was clear that the stars did not have the right material under their boots.

Great criticism

It was a valla fiasco that cost the Swedes top positions, and afterwards the Swedes were clear about how disappointed they were. Anders Svanebo has done his first season as head coach for the Swedish national team, and he was self-critical after the loss in Falun, and at the same time said that there had been “a couple of lows” during the past winter.

Linn Svahn, Frida Karlsson and Ebba Andersson chose to use words like “frustrating”, “deplorable” and “disaster” after the weekend’s final competition in Falun – and next year the herding team’s job will be even more important given that it is a WC year.

And now the stars are really critical of the work during the winter.

– You have to be quite straight and honest and say that it doesn’t work. It’s the same when I’m not good enough. I realize that I may not be good enough to beat Skistad (Norwegian skater) in a riot. Then I have to practice it. It should be the same on the other side (for the herding team), says Svahn to Norwegian NRK.

“Must be honest and say that”

Ebba Andersson also said that there had been a general problem this winter, that the skis had too often been too bad.

– Yes, I probably have to say that, she says.

At the same time, Frida Karlsson says, according to NRK, that they now hope for a “thorough analysis and evaluation” of the season to avoid a similar fiasco next season, when WC medals in Trondheim are at stake.

Linn Svahn was only 26th in the final competition of the season, and thus was never close to threatening Jessie Diggins in the overall standings. Now she hopes for improvement in the herding team for the next World Cup season.

– I have full confidence in the work being done and that you always want to be the best, but sometimes you have to say straight out: We have to sharpen up and do better, says Svahn.
