Interviewed by Paris Match, Monica Bellucci spoke about her relationship with the passage of time as she slowly approaches her 60th birthday.
In Marjane Satrapi’s new feature film, Paradise Paris, in theaters on Wednesday June 12, Monica Bellucci plays a singer forgotten by all. On this occasion, the 59-year-old actress gave an interview to Paris Match where she spoke about her career and the passage of time.
During the interview, the Paris Match journalist told him: “While many actresses do everything to hide their age, you embrace yours to the point of laughing about it in ‘Paradis Paris’.” Response from Monica Bellucci? “Since my job is acting, my body is my work tool. However, my body has changed and necessarily tells different stories than twenty or thirty years ago, when I played in “Dobermann”, “Malèna”, “Irréversible” or “The Passion of the Christ”. We can’t fight time forever. At some point we have to make an armistice.” Simple and efficient. Unlike some women of her generation, the Italian has no problem with the effects of time. On the contrary, she even agreed to appear with makeup and lighting that aged on screen. “It doesn’t benefit my physical appearance, but it’s for the role. With this appearance, I bring a character to life“, she says frankly.
Monica Bellucci accepts growing old without problems
Over time, Monica Bellucci seems to have acquired a certain form of wisdom. “Getting old doesn’t feel good, but as long as you wake up in good health, growing old becomes a favor that life offers you. You have the opportunity to see your children grow up, to be there for them… And I’m happy to be here today, at 60 years old“, assures the star while speaking of her two daughters, Deva and Léonie, fruit of her love with Vincent Cassel.
And added: “Deva is a young woman who amazes me with her choices, and Léonie, despite her young age, is responsible and I have confidence in her.”
