“We are the doormat of the Republic”: the fed-up of Marie Cau, mayor in the North

France has 35,000 municipalities and as many mayors. More and more of these mayors are getting fed up and hanging up their scarves. Every day, nearly two mayors resign. Particularly affected: small communities. At issue: the demands of citizens, the low compensation paid to city councilors or even the increasingly thankless tasks that they must carry out. Marie Cau, the mayor without a label of Tilloy-lez-Marchiennes (North), has not resigned but is one of these thousands of mayors at the end of their rope.
