The Finnish women’s under-18 national hockey team has won Canada in its opening match at the World Championships. The girl lions kept the hockey major zero and won the match 2-0.

For the first time in its history, the Finnish national under-18 girls team won the Canadian World Championships. The previous nine encounters had ended in a Canadian victory with a goal difference of 61-3.

This time the Goalkeeper of the Girl Lions Emilia Kyrkkö held his top match with Canadian zeros. Kyrkkö defeated a total of 40 times in the match. The third installment was especially sweaty, when Kyrkkö stretched the puck as many times as 19 times.

A Canadian colleague survived much more easily, for To Hailey Macleod accumulated a total of 15 fights.

Finland won the match Ada Erosen and Oona Havana with paints. Eronen scored Jenniina Kuoppalan at the end of the second batch. In the final time of 45.52, the puck was again in the Canadian finish when Hanava succeeded Siiri Yrjölän and Julia Schalinin preliminary work.

After the end of the match, the Finns celebrate the victory in a close pile.

– We are Finnish. So of course we celebrate in the locker room. We sing and dance, Havana lined up after the match.

Finland will play against the United States early next Wednesday morning. Head coach Mira Kuisma expects an even tougher battle for the Canada match.

– Tomorrow will definitely be a harder game ahead. We need to prepare for that.
