Swedish biathlon festival at home in Östersund.
But then the blue and yellow women’s riders let the home crowd down.
Today’s World Cup competition was a big disappointment for the Swedish national team riders.
The Swedish national biathlon team wrote blue and yellow sports history during the WC by winning a record number of medals, the most ever in fact. But when the world elite came to visit home in Östersund, the women’s skiers let the home crowd down in Thursday’s distance competition.
Öberg’s misses
Before the race, the reigning world champion had Hanna Öberg the chance to take home the distance cup for the season and be only 15 points behind the leader Lisa Vittozzi. But it was a very tough start for the Swedish WC queen, who shot two misses already in the first shot.

There was only one more miss for Öberg, but with three misses in total, she finished a long way behind.
– It’s such a shame about the first shot. It will be tough in this form of competition to start with a second (two misses), says older sister Öberg in the SVT broadcast.
– It is clear that I would have liked to do better. It was a little tougher out on the track than I had imagined. It’s going pretty rough today.

Elvira was the best
Today’s winner was Dorothea Wierer who took care of first place ahead of teammate Vittozzi in second place. The latter also had to celebrate the overall victory in the distance cup after Hanna Öberg failed to catch up at home.

Little sister Elvira Öberg became the best Swede for the day in a modest 20th place. But after her tough weeks with illness behind her, she was nevertheless satisfied with the effort in the distance race.
– I would still give myself a pass today. It has been a tough few weeks, says Öberg to the TV channel.
