Daniel Ståhl was whipped to throw longer than 70.02 in the last round of the discus final after Slovenian Kristjan Ceh stepped in and took over the lead from Ståhl with his last throw of the evening.
Then the Swedish 30-year-old stepped forward and sent off the second longest throw of his career, 71.46, and secured the WC gold in style.
The throw was the longest ever in a WC final and in the stands the national team captain Kajsa Bergqvist sat and cried while Ståhl made a victory gesture.
