WC BRONZE! The Swedish success in the premiere of the Biathlon World Cup – after Elvira Öberg’s super finish in the relay

What a great start for Sweden at the Biathlon World Cup.
Already in the premiere race came the very first medal.
When the Swedish relay team drove home a well-deserved bronze medal.

Sweden got off to a tough start at the Biathlon World Cup in Nove Mesto during the mixed relay in the opening race on Wednesday. Sebastian Samuelsson had to fight hard on the shooting range with a total of five misses in two shootings.

Tough for “Sebbe”

He still managed to stay out of the penalty rounds and was able to catch up quite a bit thanks to strong riding.
– Nah, but it’s weak of him. It is not approved, even if he avoids the penalty round. But the ride is good, says the SVT expert Bjorn Ferry in the broadcast.
– It’s been a long time since I was so nervous before a race and it was heavy mentally. It is clear that I am not satisfied, but I did well in the tracks, says Samuelsson about his performance.

Martin Ponsiluoma did better in the second leg with just one miss in eleven shots and took the blue and yellow team back to the top spots.
– I’m a little dissatisfied with the first shot, it was a bit sloppy. Then better in standing and stable riding. I’m still very happy with it, says Ponsiluoma after his stretch.

Öberg’s revenge

Then it was time for Hanna Öberg and the horizontal shooting became a bit of a struggle with two booms. But she made up for it in the standing series by shooting hard and getting Sweden into the medal fight seriously before the last stretch.

Little sister Elvira Öberg then finished the relay in the best way possible by shooting full in the prone part and then two misses in the standing shot. But thanks to extremely strong riding, she was able to finish in third place after a dramatic sprint battle with Switzerland.

Which means Swedish success directly in the Biathlon World Cup with a World Cup bronze in the very first race in Nove Mesto.
