Sweden manages to take the WC bronze!
After beating Australia 2-0.
Fridolina Rolfö and Kosovare Asllani scored Blågult’s goals.
Sweden had to lick the wounds after the tough loss against Spain in the World Cup semi-final. Instead of the WC final, they had to set their sights on the bronze medal match against the host nation Australia on Saturday morning.
Swedish penalty
The big question was whether Blågult had the strength to be able to adjust from disappointment to a new match and give everything for the WC bronze. It quickly became apparent that motivation was not a problem at all.

The Swedes were impressive right from the start and took command of the bronze medal match. First was Fridolina Rolfö close with a header on the crossbar but in the same sequence the referee instead found a penalty after VAR review for the Swedish side after Stina Blackstenius been felled.

Asllani’s goal
Rolfö took care of the penalty and was as ice-cold as possible by scoring 1-0 for Sweden. Blågult was then able to control the match well and it never really got exciting, especially not when after another Swedish goal came.

Blackstenius discovered that Kosovar Asllani who pulled a long shot and beautifully hammered home the all-important 2-0 goal from long range after 62 minutes played. After that, there was no talk of the matter and Sweden was able to hold off the rest of the match to secure another WC bronze.
It is Sweden’s second straight WC bronze on the women’s side.
