The big – but forgotten – role in a World Cup is the ball. It is clearly this one that is in focus. Despite this, few are interested in what type of WC ball will be used in 2022.
The company that has been commissioned to produce a WC 2022 ball is Adidas. They finished their ball at the beginning of the year 2022. It is now already available to buy in several sports shops around the world.
WC 2022 ball – Al-Rihla, Adidas
The name of the official World Cup ball in 2022 will be Al-Rihla (see picture above). It is a name taken from Arabic. Al-Rihla means “in the beginning of the journey” or “a journey in the beginning”. It is perhaps a fit for the host nation Qatar – which is now hoped to take new steps towards humanity and rights.
The company that produces the ball – Adidas – describes the ball as an inclusive WC ball. The reason why the ball is considered inclusive is not answered by Adidas in more detail. They refer to the fact that the ball will be released in many different colors and combinations.
“A ball is so much more than just a ball, it is the beginning of something more: the pen that writes a book or the nail hammered into the coffin. “
– Adidas
Previous WC balls have usually had a special function or property. For example, that the shots should be harder, the ball should stay longer in the air or the pattern in the ball. This is not something we can see present in the official WC 2022 ball – Al-Rihla – from Adidas.
