Waze has a feature that could save young childrens lives

Every summer, many parents are faced with this same problem in the car, which can be fatal for children. To prevent risks, the Waze application has developed a very effective feature.

Every year, when temperatures rise, the media report the same dramatic events. And it is often babies, or pets, who are the first victims. Dependent on their parents (or their owners), they can only wait for someone to come and save them. In fact, more parents than you might think forget their baby inside the vehicle. And with the high temperatures, the interior of the passenger compartment becomes a real furnace. The baby risks dehydration, or even death. Sometimes, passers-by have the right reflex: call for help and break the window to get the child out as quickly as possible, while waiting for them to arrive.

These cases are unfortunately not isolated and it can happen to any parent. It is usually a mistake of inattention, linked to stress or fatigue, overwork, etc.: a father who takes the child to the nursery or to the childminder, and forgets to drop him off there: he drives directly to his office, leaving the child on the back shelf of the vehicle, in full sun.

So, to avoid risks and limit the cases of forgotten baby syndrome, Waze has developed a feature that could save the life of more than one child. It is a simple alert that displays the notification “Child Reminder” when you finish your journey. A good way to encourage each driver to check the interior of their vehicle before closing the car doors, so as not to forget their child.

To set up this automatic reminder at the end of each route, simply go to the application settings, by clicking on the three bars at the top left that allow you to access the menu. Click on Settings, then on “Reminders” and activate the “Child reminder” option. By default, the following message will be displayed at the end of each journey: “check your car before leaving”. But you can completely personalize it as you wish, for example with your little one’s first name.
