You either like or dislike Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
There is no doubt which side Wayne Rooney is on.
For many years, Zlatan Ibrahimovic belonged to the absolute world top of soccer players. He had his big breakthrough in Malmö, but it was in Italy that the whole of Europe learned about his scoring prowess.
Rooney’s tribute
Ibrahimovic was successful at both Juventus, Inter and Milan, and grew to become one of the world’s biggest stars. Ibrahimovic has absolutely racked up goals and won titles in league after league, and it was at PSG that he was at his very best. But Ibrahimovic also managed to make a successful stay in England before turning to the USA and MLS.
At Manchester United, Ibrahimovic quickly became one of the biggest stars, with teammates such as Paul Pogba and Wayne Rooney. Just Rooney is a player that Zlatan himself has always spoken very highly of, and it seems that the feelings are reciprocated. When Wayne Rooney left Manchester United to play in MLS six years ago, he was asked how it feels to play in the same league as Zlatan Ibrahimovic again.
The words after the move
What followed was one big tribute from the player with the most goals in Manchester United’s storied history.
– Zlatan is a fantastic player and I think it is great for the league to have him here. He has been one of the world’s best players over the past ten years, Rooney said.
– He creates goals and scores goals. For the league, it’s great to have someone like Zlatan here. It will certainly help the league.
However, Zlatan Ibrahimovic was disappointed about one thing – namely that Rooney did not join the same team as him. Rooney revealed that Zlatan had reached out and aired his displeasure.
– He asked why I didn’t join him in LA.
