Wayne Rooney is one of the most successful and well-known names in English football.
The striker – who, among other things, won five league titles with Manchester United – began his career at Everton.
And maybe that is precisely why his childhood idol is who he is, namely a Swede.

Wayne Rooney, 37, is today the coach of American DC United in the MLS. As a player, the Englishman broke through early when, aged just 16, he scored his first goal in the Premier League for Everton. There would be a bunch more.

Rooney is not least remembered for being the player who scored the most goals in the history of Manchester United, a whopping 253 goals. Add to that 53 sacks for the English national team.

One of the biggest

With clubs such as Everton and Manchester United behind him – where during his stay in the latter of the two he reaped the greatest success – as well as his achievements in the national team, Wayne Rooney has forever entered the history books as one of the absolute greatest in English football.

But even the biggest stars have at some point been children and had their role models and idols, so does Wayne Rooney. In his case, it’s not just anyone – it’s a Swede who is at the top of the list of idols.

“I got rubber legs”

Anders Limpar played at Everton between 1994-1997, and perhaps that is precisely why Rooney idolized the former Swedish midfielder.
– Anders Limpar was my idol. I liked him because he shot and dribbled more than Duncan FergusonWayne Rooney has previously told in an interview with the British The Sun.

Rooney’s statement has not flown over the head of Anders Limpar, who has told how honorable it feels to have acted as an idol and role model for one of the world’s best strikers.
– When I played in Everton, he was in their football team, they were often watching matches and training. It was almost my greatest achievement, I got rubber legs when he said that. It was very honorable for one of the best players in the world to say that when he is at the peak of his career and for him to stick to it. I was overjoyed, Anders Limpar has previously said in an interview with the newspaper Expressen.
